Taking charge

It was only at the turn of the 1980’s that the long process of taking charge started.  The Council of the Montagnais of Lac-Saint-Jean affirmed its acceptance of progressive autonomy from the two levels of government.  This process led, among other things, to a certain autonomy in health, social and leisure services, as well as education where the Montagnais Council became the sole administrator, and the Pekuakamiulnuatsh, became leaders in these sensitive sectors.
