The huge glaciers

Chute Chaudière
Carte de la mer Laflamme

12 000 years ago, like all of Quebec, the whole of our territory was covered by immense glaciers.  Gradually, the melting of these glaciers revealed the territory and large areas of water made their appearance.  Once the glaciers had totally receded, a huge area of water called the Laflamme Sea covered the entire region now called Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean and it was connected with the St-Laurent River.
