A territory denuded

Regions most rapidly affected have suffered various forestry operations of woodcutting, log floating, opening of logging and site roads, etc.  This is the case with the forests immediately around Lac-Saint-Jean, and those situated to the south of the lake, comprising the basin of the Lièvre, Croche, Trenche and Bostonnais rivers.  The scale of the forestry operations in this region, allied with other factors, harms the ecological equilibrium, but also the subsistence activities of the Pekuakamiulnuatsh families.

This is devastating for some families.  It is the end of a thousand-year epic.  Despite all, some families remain in the territory to practise their activities for the whole year; this is the case for the family of Mr. François Xavier who lives at the intersection of a road and a river (the Brûle-neige River), not far from the Mistassibi River.
