Activities and perspectives

Besides the passage of numerous families in these territories and the hunting and fishing activities which were practised in the past and which are still practised today, interest in the river has been felt over time right up to our times.  In the 1990’s, when the Québec government authorised the construction of mini-power-stations, the Pekuakamiulnuatsh constructed the Minashtuk Power-station on the Mistassibi; it has been in operation since 1999-2000.  With a firm contract for the sale of electricity to Hydro-Quebec, this «on stream» mini-power-station could produce up to 12 MW of electricity, and it remains the property of the community.
