Tourism
One of the first elements developed, that of «tourism» which, even before the creation of the Ilnu Economic Development Society of Mashteuiatsh (IEDS) appeared to be a natural activity in place. The creation of the Mashteuiatsh History and Archaeology Society, in 1976, that was going to be in charge of the Mashteuiatsh Amerindian Museum, for the first time displayed the cultural richness of our people, by means of the objects and ancestral cultural heritage (based notably on witnesses).
For tourism, we are nonetheless in the recognition stage. As an example, at the start of the XXth century, the Pekuakamiulnuatsh served as guides for fishing for ouananiche in the Pekuakami, and during hunting expeditions in the territory. Later, it was during the formation of Clubs and Outfitting Companies that we pursued our deepening understanding of tourism. Today, small and medium businesses are emerging and developing this niche.
