Trapping techniques
To capture fur-bearing animals, the Pekuakamiulnuatsh, like most of the Algonquin Nations of Eastern Canada, had to be ingenious. Originally, the Ilnuatsh used traps made on site based on the principle of crushing the base of the neck of the animal. For example, bears were hunted this way. An ingenious triggering of a trap arranged that the weight of tree trunks literally fell on the animal. This type of trap was used until the arrival of metal leg traps that proved more efficient and more rapid.
