The elders and the youth
The role of elders is recognised fundamentally by the Pekuakamiulnuatsh, as having a very important role for safeguarding the traditional values of the people. Over the 1990’s, taking into account the importance accorded to the elders, a committee, formed of representatives of the elders, was created to be consulted on various subjects notably touching upon culture and traditional life. On the other hand, in a spirit of vision for the future, a similar committee was formed from the young in the community. The latter also had a consultative role to play in the community and the members whom they represent.
