Transportation today

Clearly, occupation of the territory for the practice of traditional activities has diminished considerably over the last generations.  Life habits have changed for many but a good part of the community continues to carry on hunting, fishing and trapping according to the appropriate season for these practices.  To remain connected with the territories (which cover some 85,000 square km), the Council of the Montagnais of Lac-Saint-Jean created services in the territory, at the beginning of the 1980’s.  Since then it has been possible for the Pekuakamiulnuatsh to use modern means of transportation to have access to the hunting territory.
