Traditional / Modern life
It is clear that major problems appear when a people pass from being nomadic to a semi-sedentary situation by the imposition of a new way of life. Everything depends upon finding a way to marry the traditional life and modern life while respecting, as much as possible, the fundamental values of the whole nation.
As an example of traditions maintained in today’s customs, we practise the «mukushan» which consists of a traditional meal where, basically, the guests bring food with the aim of partaking in a communal meal based on sharing. Each year, on Christmas Day, a Pekuakamiulnuatsh family takes the initiative of inviting the whole community to a traditional meal of this type. Initially, the mukushan was practised at the start of a bear hunt and was the occasion for an assembly.
