Culture shock
For the Pekuakamiulnuatsh, there was the culture shock of this inevitable meeting with the white men from elsewhere. As the contacts intensified, there was a certain retreat from traditional activities. The new life habits, either religious or social, came to modify daily life considerably.
The contact cultures were very different. At the time when the culture shock happened, there were already significant differences between the First Nations; but there existed significant respect for these differences that were as drastic as nomadic compared with a sedentary lifestyle. Thus, culture shock associated with the contact period was inevitable.
