Importance of the area
The Métabetchouan trading post was an important meeting place for the Pekuakamiulnuatsh and for the First Nations in general. Father Albanel said that he had seen there «up to twenty nations represented», testifying about the customers that one could find there. It was created in 1676 and operated for many years before becoming a small coastal village, at the edge of the Pekuakami.
